Highlights in the Year 2006

Lek, a Sandoz company, ended 2005 successfully. It recorded $ 656.5 million in sales, which is a 0.4 percentage point higher than in 2004. The net profit on sales was 15%, which is slightly lower than in 2004 when it reached 18.6%. Lek’s share of sales in Sandoz was 14%. Once again, Lek posted its highest sales figures in the amount of $529 million in its pharmaceutical products (prescription medicine) and $75.2 million for over-the-counter medicine.

Lek, a Sandoz company, ended its annual campaign, which had been held for children in every Slovenian hospital, at the Pediatric Hospital in Ljubljana with a creative workshop and a visit by the rower Luka Špik. In each hospital, we prepared a creative workshop for children, gave them a full-year subscription to the Petka magazine and helped them furnish children's corners.
Lek donated funds to the healthcare center in Murska Sobota

In Pomurje, medical cards containing a record of prescribed medicine are being introduced which will allow for easier and better control of prescribed treatments. This system was also introduced in the healthcare center in Murska Sobota with the help of the pharmaceutical company Lek, which donated SIT 1.9 million.
Lek’s intranet again the best

At the second Slovenian conference on internet and internal communication entitled ‘How to focus an intranet for users and increase the productivity of employees’ the INTRA award was given out for the best intranet of the year in Slovenia. The award was presented to Lek for the second consecutive year. When making the selection, the program counsel considered the clarity of the objectives presented, the diversity of content and applications, the existence of efficiency measurements, and other points.
Lek is the main sponsor of Caring For My Heart project

The Medical Student Association of Slovenia developed the Caring For My Heart project with the objective of reducing long-term cardiovascular diseases among the Slovene population. The main sponsor is Lek, a Sandoz company, expertly supported by the Cardiovascular Health Association of Slovenia. Primary and secondary schools across Slovenia are participating in the project.

Again in 2006, Lek, a Sandoz company, was the general sponsor of the campaign to strengthen the oral hygiene of children and youth. The campaign was organized by the Dental Section of the Slovenian Medical Association for the 23rd year. At the end of the year, the best classes were given symbolic awards and the best in various regions were also given awards at the main concluding event held in Tivoli Hall on June 1, 2006.
New member of Lek Board of Management

On July 1, Anette Weber joined the four-member Lek Board of Management, a Sandoz company, and become responsible for finance. She retained her current role as the Lek Director of Finance. She joined the Novartis group in 1997 as the deputy executive director of Novartis Animal Health. Since then, she has gained experience in finances and general management throughout the world. In 2002, she was appointed as the Director of Novartis Animal Health in Japan. In 2005, she joined Sandoz, a generic division of Novartis, as the Head of Finance of Sandoz Germany.

On Prvomajski square in Piran, the Sunshine games came to life which was attended by 70 children that were spending holidays at the summer holiday resort of the Friends of Youth Association of Slovenia, under the auspices of the campaign “A Wink at the Sun”. Lek, a Sandoz company, donated a children’s performance and brought the rower Luka Špik for a visit.

It recorded sales of SIT 74.2 billion, which is 13% higher than in the same period of the previous year. Lek’s share of sales in Sandoz was 13.2%. Once again, Lek posted its highest sales figures in the amount of SIT 57.4 billion in its pharmaceutical products (prescription medicine) and SIT 10.1 billion for over-the-counter medicines. Other Lek programs recorded sales in the amount of SIT 6.7 billion.

Lek, a Sandoz company, has its 60th anniversary which is an honorable jubilee. This jubilee is marked by starting the construction of a Biopharmaceuticals Development Center in Mengeš, which will consolidate Lek’s and Sandoz’s leading positions in future technology. Celebrations were held at the Jablje castle where we were shown six decades of Lek, its present and its future. Janja Bratoš, President of the Lek Board of Management, and Dr Andreas Rummel, CEO of Sandoz, addressed the guests.
Creating a regional supply point for Eastern Europe in Ljubljana

One of the main priority tasks for Sandoz is to capture a strong position on the global market. The Supply unit started implementing a strategy for global improvement in the supply of products. In accordance with this strategy, five regional supply points were created. The supply point in Ljubljana takes care of the whole supply process for Eastern Europe, and is the only contact point for offer and supply planning for this region. It is lead by Volkhard Werner, who started his business career in Novartis 16 years ago.
Lek’s newspaper Kolektiv is the best internal newspaper in Slovenia

Lek, a Sandoz company, at the 10th Slovenian Conference on Public Relations received the Papirus award for 2006 for the best internal newspaper, the monthly Kolektiv, in the creation of which a wide circle of Lek employees participate. Registered magazines are evaluated by a five-member jury to determine the observance of the mission and communication of media, the language quality of the reporters, the diversity of the reported news, the image as a whole, photographs and page break.
Lek researchers received a Novartis award for the VIVA research

Main Novartis scientists were given global awards for research for the seventh consecutive time. Conferring the awards on the most deserving scientists from each of the divisions of Novartis is based on a direct initiative of Dr Daniel Vasella, CEO of Novartis. For 2006, among all the scientists at Sandoz, the award was received by two colleagues, Dr Anton Čopar and Rok Graher, MSc. Eng. in addition to two colleagues from Austria. Dr Anton Čipar is a leading expert in organic chemistry and Rok Grahek is a leading scientist in chemical analysis research and development of analytical methods for the Research Center in Slovenia.
Ilirija becomes owner of Lek Kozmetika

On the basis of a mutual agreement, a contract was signed between two stock corporations, Lek and Ilirija, for the sale of a 100% share in the company Lek Kozmetika. With this agreement, ownership of Lek Kozmetika was transferred to Ilirija. The company sold will continue to manage brand names already established. With this decision, Lek has strengthened its focus on the development, production and marketing of pharmaceutical products and active ingredients.
