The new production plant of Bosnalijek built with Lek's assistance

7. 9. 1998

On Monday, 7 September 1998, the ceremonial opening took place of a renewed and partly rebuilt production plant for solid galenic forms in the Bosnalijek pharmaceutical company in Sarajevo. The new plant is the result of long and successful co-operation between Lek and Bosnalijek. The event was attended by the president of the Republic of Slovenia Milan Kucan during his official visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina, together with the president of the parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina Alija Izetbegovic. Others at the opening were members of the parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina, representatives of the diplomatic corps, ambassadors and other high-ranking officials. One of the guests giving a speech was also the president of Lek Board of Management Dr. Andro Ocvirk.

Long-lasting co-operation between Lek and Bosnalijek, the beginnings of which extend back to 1986, was additionally confirmed at the end of 1995 when the two companies signed a Letter of Intent, thus certifying further more substantial co-operation, which resulted in the presently renewed production plant for solid galenic forms. As part of the construction of the old production plant, partly destroyed during the war, Lek performed the projects, took part in the selection of technological and other equipment, and provided the assistance of its own experts.

Last May Lek and Bosnalijek signed a further agreement on the assembly of technological equipment and installations, while the works will be completed in October. In the above mentioned Letter of Intent Bosnalijek and Lek stated that, provided that the corresponding legal and business conditions are fulfilled, Lek’s investment contribution will be capitalized as an ownership share in Bosnalijek.
