Cancer Awareness Week: from words to actions

7. 3. 2022

During the 39th Cancer Awareness Week (from March 7 to March 13, 2022) Novartis joins the efforts of the institutions that support cancer patients. To prevent cancer, there is a lot we can do ourselves, something we are kindly reminded by the Association of Slovenian Cancer Societies. In cooperation with the Oncology Institute Ljubljana, their message during cancer awareness week is: “Do not wait for the end of the pandemic, act against cancer now.”

From words to actions: check out the website of the Association of Slovenian Cancer Societies, which with 11 regional societies is the oldest and most important actor in the field of cancer prevention among non-governmental organizations, and discover 12 tips to fight cancer.

Do something good for yourself and others on International Women’s Day

In these challenging times it is of paramount importance to take care of your health and the health of other people, so let’s keep that in mind. Tomorrow’s International Women’s Day is an opportunity for a kindly reminder of the importance of a regular monthly breast check, which contributes to an early discovery and treatment of cancer. On the website of the Europa Donna Slovenija you can see how to properly check your breast. In the meantime, men can follow the instructions on the website of the Slovenian Oncology Society for Men Onkoman and perform a testicular self-examination – it only takes 30 seconds and if you perform it at least once per month, it can save your life.

Do you want to make the day for your loved ones? This Rosy flower trio is an excellent idea of the Europa Donna association: give them daisy, aster, and Chabaud Carnation seeds – all in beautiful rose colors, tied with a pink ribbon, on which a wonderful thought is written.

The project is also joined by Novartis, as we tirelessly support numerous institutions that provide support to cancer patients. During the 25th anniversary of Novartis and 75th anniversary of the company Lek, we have shown support to the efforts of the Association of Slovenian Cancer Societies.

We want to  discover the cure for cancer

Successful  scientific-research work of Novartis employees brings new hope to patients with  various types of cancer, as we at Novartis are striving to develop new  breakthrough medicines and therapies to address cancer, one of the most common  diseases in the world. As the only pharmaceutical company that is globally  pursuing four different cancer treatment platforms – radioligand therapy, cell  and gene therapy, targeted therapy, and immunotherapy - our vision is clear: we  want to find the cure and help people with their treatment all over the world. In a recent interview, this was also expressed by Predrag Bogavac, Oncology General Manager Slovenia.

We strive to develop therapies that not only prolong the life of patients, but also improve it. We are exceptionally proud of our innovative targeted therapy, which is an important breakthrough in the field of breast cancer treatment, especially the metastatic breast cancer.

At Novartis, we are aware that in 2020 alone, more than 550,000 women died of cancer in the EU, and over 1.2 million were diagnosed with cancer. Cancer mainly affects women and poses a particular challenge to achieving global health equality. At Novartis, we are currently striving to enable access to therapies to patients in all countries we operate in.
