Bringing science closer to visitors of Sciencetival

10. 6. 2016

For the third year running, Lek, a Sandoz company, has been participating at Sciencetival, a festival of science and adventures, organized by the House of Experiments. This year, Zlatko Pflaum, project manager at Biopharmaceuticals Mengeš and the presentation mastermind, presented chromatography together with his colleagues, in the Garden of Experiments in a simple and fun way.

»At our booth in the Garden of Experiments, we presented chromatography through a story in pictures and words, while chromatography experiments were carried out with felt-tip pens. The visitors showed great interest and our booth was always crowded so my colleagues and I were very busy. However, this was our endeavour and I believe that we managed to bring science closer to the visitors at our booth and added a nice piece to the mosaic of our efforts to promote knowledge,« said Zlatko Pflaum.

What is chromatography?

Chromatography is one of the most common techniques used for the separation of compounds based on differential partitioning between the mobile and stationary phases. It is used in the pharmaceutical industry for analysis and purification of active pharmaceutical ingredients and raw materials, in cosmetics and the chemical industry, for purification of water and preparation of demineralised water, analysis of foods, drinks and colorants, in medicine, criminalistics and forensic analyses, etc.

Year 2016 is a jubilee year for Lek, a Sandoz company. The company is celebrating a remarkable 70 years of operation and at the same time the 20th anniversary of Novartis, a company of which they are part. Therefore, in this year, special efforts have been devoted to strengthening corporate social responsibility as well as organising various projects and activities for the development of knowledge and innovation. By participating at the biggest festival of science and adventures in Slovenia, Lek, a Sandoz company, has enriched the festive year and brought science into the community.
