Lek receives the Responsible Care® Certificate for the 12th time
Lek, which is part of Novartis, acquired the Responsible Care® Certificate on January 30, 2020. The certificate, awarded by the Association of Chemical Industries of the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is a voluntary global initiative adopted by the chemical industry to promote health protection, safety, and environmental protection in its broadest sense. By being re-awarded, Lek demonstrates practicing responsible behaviors embedded in its operations and crucial for further company development.
Lek has obtained the certificate for the twelfth time now. The Association of Chemical Industries overseeing the Responsible Care Certificate acknowledged Lek’s continued efforts to improve health, safety and environmental performance and to report transparently on its activities in these areas. The Lek Sustainability Report, annually reporting on the economic, environmental, and social dimensions of the company's operations, has been recording improvements in these key indicators for the past several years.

For many years now, we have been striving to ensure balanced development and to seek for continuous improvement in the field of environmental protection, occupational health, and safety at all stages of our work processes and product life cycles. We are aware that our business is based on the trust of our patients and customers,” said Robert Hribar, Health, Safety and Environment Head at Lek. This is the 12th certificate Lek has received so far, they received the first Responsible Care Certificate in 2009.
Responsible Care for the Chemical Industry
Started in Canada, Responsible Care® for the Chemical Industry evolved as a global voluntary initiative in 1981. Today, the mission of Responsible Care® is promoted by ICCA (International Council of Chemical Associations) and CEFIC (European Chemical Industry Council). It is a registered trademark that can only be used by companies and associations going above and beyond their standards to promote performance in health, safety and environment. The aim of the program is to assure continuous improvements in these areas by collecting data on 16 indicators. For their efforts for running a Responsible Care program and transparent reporting, companies receive RCI certificates and an annual license to use the RCI logo.
