The pharmaceutical company Lek, a Sandoz company, which as a longtime partner of the Slovenian Association of Friends of Youth (SAFY) has supported the A Wink at the Sun campaign since its inception, held the Sunshine Games for the 11th year in a row as part of the campaign. This is a special day of events which provides further entertainment for the children who are currently enjoying carefree holidays at the holiday home of the Slovenian Association of Friends of Youth in Kranjska Gora. This year €102,000 were collected for the A Wink at the Sun campaign, of which Lek contributed €15,000.

This year the SAFY in cooperation with Lek, a Sandoz company, has brought joy to around 340 children, who are currently enjoying relaxing, fun and educational holidays at the holiday facilities of the Slovenian Association of Friends of Youth. Today was a truly special day at the holiday home in Kranjska Gora, since Lek’s annual Sunshine Games were attended by the wife of the President of the Republic of Slovenia Mrs. Barbara Miklič Türk, who joined everyone in watching a performance by the Kolenc Family Theater. On the occasion, representatives of the SAFY and Lek presented the results of this year’s campaign, which was successful in spite of the current economic conditions.

President of the Slovenian Association of Friends of Youth Franc Hočevar: “We are extremely pleased that despite the recession our longtime partner Lek is still with us. Lek has supported the A Wink at the Sun campaign since the very beginning. Although donations from legal entities this year are only a third of the usual amount, individuals have made exceptional contributions, which they donated according to their ability and demonstrated that they are prepared to help children even in difficult times. I would like to sincerely thank everyone, including the Večer, Delo and Slovenske novice newspapers for circulating the donation forms, and the banks, who waived their commissions. And of course anyone who would like to donate funds should contact the Slovenian Association of Friends of Youth or their local society or association.”

Around 340 children on holiday this year with “A Wink at the Sun”

“This year many families will probably choose to spend their holidays at home, since the situation in our country is truly difficult and many families are enduring serious hardships. Therefore we at Lek are very happy that the A Wink at the Sun campaign, which we have worked on together with the Slovenian Association of Friends of Youth since the very beginning, that is for 12 years in a row, is still going strong and is still making it possible for children to go on holidays. In these twelve years Lek has donated over 175,000 euros to this initiative. We have been joined by several other donators, companies and individuals, and together we have made free holidays possible for nearly 8,000 children, who otherwise would not have been able to enjoy these wonderful and unforgettable holiday activities. We invite all companies to participate in such campaigns in the future, and we hope that together we can bring forth the sound of children’s laughter,” said Katarina Klemenc Dinjaški, Head of Corporate Communication at Lek.

In its noteworthy 56-year history, the Slovenian Association of Friends of Youth has taken children on carefree holidays every year to its holiday homes all over Slovenia, at the seaside and in the mountains, where they are joined by friendly teachers, facilitators, healthcare workers and volunteers and enjoy a wide range of sports and cultural activities. In this friendly atmosphere they improve their health, feel better, learn a lot of interesting things and make new friends.
