30. 5. 2001

Ljubljana, May 30 -The pharmaceutical company Lek d. d. (Lek) today signed a contract with IBM Slovenija d. o. o., which will provide Lek with the integrated business information system SAP. Introduction of the SAP program is proof of the Lek’s firm commitment to further standardizing and internationalizing its business operations. This new system will link all of Lek’s business operations – from development and production to marketing and sales.

“The signing of the contract with IBM Slovenija and the introduction of this new information system is only the first step in reshaping Lek’s business operations" emphasized Danilo Kolenc MSc, the executive director of Lek’s Information Technology Sector, as he signed the contract. "We now face the demanding task of implementing SAP, the world’s leading information system, which is widely used by many international pharmaceutical companies."

The task of introducing the new information system SAP will be accomplished in two phases. Phase one, which should be finished by the first quarter of 2002, will introduce the finance part of the SAP program, modernizing the finance, accounting and controlling process. The second, more far-reaching phase, beginning in the last quarter of this year, will launch SAP Logistics. This stage should be completed in two years. The price of Lek implementing the new information system SAP, will be roughly equivalent to building a small new plant.

This project will involve the cooperation of the most skilled of Lek’s employees with various IBM partners; the Ljubljana subsidiary of SAP Austria, Probis d. o. o., Ljubljana: IDS Scheer d. o. o., Ljubljana; Nibble Information Systems d. o. o., Kranj; and two IBM firms – SerCom and IT Services & Solutions of Germany.
