At Lek in Mengeš, 40 top Slovenian natural science experts, studying or working abroad, gathered at the now already fifth annual Novartis Carer Breakfast. In informal interviews, heads, HR managers and associates from Novartis units in Slovenia presented them with career opportunities offered by the high-tech pharmaceutical company in Slovenia.

In addition to a comprehensive insight into the business operations and excellent opportunities that enable experts a career growth and development in their home environment, the event gave the participants the opportunity to meet the company’s key experts and managers and establish new contacts that may be important for their future career. For many participants, this was also an opportunity to have their first job interviews.

»The Novartis Career Breakfast is a unique approach to reverse the migration trends of a highly qualified work force. With 21 new recruitments over five years and almost 300 participants, it has shown that Slovenian experts, who are active abroad, are looking for career opportunities in their home environment. Our task as an employer is to identify top human resources, address them appropriately and offer them an encouraging working environment and organisation culture where they will be able to develop their potential. As the most reputable employer in Slovenia, Novartis will continue to develop excellent career opportunities for professionals from different areas of expertise, especially in the light of a transformation of Novartis at the global level that is bringing a Global Operations Center to Slovenia. The center will bring opportunities for new jobs for people from different disciplines, as it will provide key services to production units around the world. We are giving the opportunity for professional growth to an extremely wide range of experts from other fields as well, not only pharmacy,« said Ksenija Butenko Černe, a member of the Board of Management of Lek and Head Legal Affairs.

At the global level, new career opportunities for scientists are continuously emerging as breakthroughs in medical/pharmaceutical science unfold, therefore at Novartis we are aware that we have to adopt an innovative and proactive approach to attract experts. » The experts who study or work abroad usually decide to return when they realise that they will be able to pursue their professional ambitions also in their home environment,« stressed Špela Bernhard, Project Manager and Head Talent Acquisition and Staffing at Lek. The Novartis Career Breakfast therefore represents a rare opportunity to gain a comprehensive insight into the work opportunities and the challenges in the pharmaceutical industry and obtain first-hand information, directly from the employees.

“In my case, this played an important role when making a decision to return to my home environment,” says Rok Brišar, PhD, production technologist at Drug Substance Bioproduction Mengeš, one of the twenty-one who have taken up a job at Novartis in Slovenia through this initiative, and adds: »The Novartis Career Breakfast truly opens the door to return to Slovenia. In conversations with the representatives of the company, I gained an insight into the work of different units and immediately recognised the opportunity to learn, develop and pursue my career. Being part of Novartis, one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in the world, enables me to acquire new knowledge and work together with internationally renowned top experts. I am especially proud to jointly accomplish outstanding scientific achievements.«

The Novartis Career Breakfast is an awarded initiative that sets, together with the Regional BioCamp and Novartis Business Career Event, the trends in the field of employment.
